Missing Poetry Friday!

Ha! It's Poetry Friday and I've missed so many this summer. I've missed you all! So taking my cue from our lovely substitute rounder-upperer, Irene Latham, I'm thinking about missing things as my last set of grands set out for Minnesota this afternoon.

missing things

three sets of keys lost in pockets
one pink croc
two garden spades
sleep
Mr. Potato Head's feet
the crash of block towers tumbling down
Dr. Seuss and Goodnight Moon
apple juice and swim suits
car seats, afternoon treats
arguments to arbitrate
the sudden, unanticipated
I love you, Dori.

Pop and Dori and all the Grands!

  1. Aw, this is beautiful, Doraine! How very very lucky you are to have EIGHT gorgeous grandkids. That will add up to 24 sets of keys, 8 pairs of potato feet, and the equivalent of the Chrysler Building in block towers! :)

  3. Time flies so swiftly, Dori. What a beautiful group, grandkids included! I'm sure you had a lovely time. When mine leave, they leave 'quiet' behind. (Maybe that's a line for a poem?) Nice to hear from you again.

    1. Yes, I am relishing the quiet today. That is a good line for a poem. Send it to me when you write it.

  4. I am there in your suddenly too empty, too quiet but still chaotic house. What a beautiful photographic memory. May there be another meeting soon.

    1. I keep looking at the leftover chaos and thinking like Scarlet O'Hara. There's always tomorrow. I'll think about that tomorrow.

    1. It's a very strange mixture of sadness to see them go and gladness to have my space back.

  13. Fabulous poem and photo! So many lovely "grands" - from wee to big. I love this line in your poem: "arguments to arbitrate". Put two kids in a room and this will inevitably come about. Thanks for sharing. = )
