Maize Cinquain

Corn Maze

I have
entered doors that
led to corn mazes too
complicated for peaceful thought,
wondered

why I
took this turn when
another would have led
me home, carried my dreams over
breezy

pathways
immune to pain,
but my route ran counter
to those paths, and I found treasure
buried

among
the stalks of corn
that another might have
missed, and I am richer because
of it.

  1. What a gorgeous poem, Dori! I love the interdependent stanzas and, of course, the deeper meaning. I definitely feel richer for having read it.

    1. Poetry does make us rich, both the reading and the writing, doesn't it?

  2. Dori, I read it several times, love the flow from stanza to stanza that you achieved, like wandering in a maze! You managed to tell quite a bit in these four. Thank you!

  3. What a lovely reflection on the puzzles of life, Doraine! The cinquain form displays beautifully on the page, but as Linda said, your poem flows and the form never gets in the way or takes over.

  4. I've never been in a corn maze -- thank you for giving me the experience in verse!
